Seadrift is a small town on the Guadalupe Delta where the Guadalupe and San Antonio Rivers pour into San Antonio Bay. The delta country around Seadrift holds some of the best speckled trout and redfish water on the middle Texas coast, and it rarely sees the pressure of Port Aransas or Corpus Christi. The delta habitat — fresh water mixing with salt, thick with grass and oyster reefs — is exceptional.
The Guadalupe Delta flats are wade fishing territory. The bay is shallow and grassy, and wading anglers working early morning on a falling tide can find redfish tailing visibly on the sand and shell. Speckled trout hold in the deeper grass edges and around the oyster reefs throughout the year, with Fall being the strongest season for larger fish.
Espiritu Santo Bay to the south is accessible from Seadrift and offers more open water for boat fishing. The flats inside the bay are excellent for sight casting to reds on calm days. Pass Cavallo provides Gulf access for nearshore fishing when conditions allow the run.
San Antonio Bay is famous for sudden squalls in Spring and Summer. An afternoon thunderstorm can build from clear skies in 30 minutes. Keep an eye on the western and northwestern horizon when out on the water. The bay is shallow enough that even a modest north wind creates rough chop quickly.
