Point Pleasant Beach sits at the mouth of the Manasquan Inlet, one of the most productive stretches of the Jersey Shore. The inlet connects the Manasquan River and the back-bay system to the Atlantic, and the tidal current concentrates bluefish, striped bass, and summer flounder. It's close to New York metro, which means fishing pressure is real — but so is the fishing.
The Manasquan Inlet jetties are classic striper water in Fall and Spring. Surfcasters line up along the rocks during peak runs and the fish in the inlet can be large — 30-pound bass are caught here annually. Summer flounder fishing in the bay and inlet is the dominant warm-weather activity. Party boats out of Point Pleasant provide affordable access to the nearshore porgy grounds.
Offshore, the Mud Hole and nearshore ridge system produce sea bass, porgy, and ling through the cooler months. Summer brings mahi and occasional bluefin tuna on the warm-water temperature breaks east of the inlet. Canyon trips for yellowfin and bigeye depart from Point Pleasant regularly.
The Manasquan Inlet bar can shoal and the inlet is wave-exposed in northeast swells. Check inlet conditions closely before heading outside. The incoming tide typically produces the best striper and bluefish action in the inlet rip.
