St. Simons Island is the largest of Georgia's Golden Isles and offers exceptional inshore and nearshore fishing in the diverse coastal ecosystem surrounding this historic island. The Brunswick River, Frederica River, and the numerous tidal creeks and marshes surrounding St. Simons provide outstanding habitat for redfish, flounder, spotted seatrout, and sheepshead.
The Golden Isles are famous for their extensive saltwater fly fishing opportunities, with redfish being the primary target on the grass flats and marsh edges. Sight-fishing for tailing and cruising reds in the clear, shallow water around low-lying marsh is thrilling and productive. The area's black drum fishing is exceptional, with large fish feeding on oysters and crabs along the creek edges.
St. Simons Sound and St. Andrews Sound provide access to the Atlantic and nearshore fishing grounds. King mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and amberjack are caught on the nearshore reef structures. The Jekyll Island area to the south offers additional productive fishing habitat. Monitor the substantial Georgia tidal range with the live tide chart above before planning your trip.
