Grand Isle is Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island and the fishing epicenter of the state's legendary coastal marsh fishery. Grand Isle sits at the edge of some of the most productive coastal waters in North America, where vast Louisiana marshes drain into the Gulf and create nutrient-rich estuaries that support extraordinary numbers of redfish, speckled trout, and flounder.
The barrier island position means anglers can fish both the Gulf-side beach and the protected back bay simultaneously. The area's offshore fishing is exceptional, with oil and gas platforms dotting the Gulf within easy reach, holding red snapper, amberjack, and during summer months, incredible mahi-mahi and wahoo action. The annual Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo is one of the South's most historic fishing tournaments.
Grand Isle is the jumping-off point for venturing into Louisiana's "fishing triangle" — the protected bay waters behind the island where the redfish and trout fishing is among the best in the country. Tidal creeks, ponds, and marsh edges produce exceptional catch rates of both species year-round. Use the live marine forecast to find the optimal window for each type of fishing.
