Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand offers 60 miles of coastline along the South Carolina coast, providing abundant fishing opportunities both from shore and offshore. The Murrells Inlet fishing community just south of Myrtle Beach is one of the Southeast's most active fishing ports, with a fleet of head boats and charter boats targeting nearshore and offshore species year-round.
Inshore fishing around Myrtle Beach focuses on the Waccamaw River, the Little River Neck, and the ICW system, where red drum, spotted seatrout, and flounder are the primary targets. The Little River Inlet to the north provides direct access to nearshore fishing for Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, and bluefish during their seasonal migrations along the coast.
Offshore from Myrtle Beach, the 60-mile run to the Gulf Stream is rewarded with sailfish, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and blue marlin during summer and fall. The live-bottom ledges 15–30 miles offshore hold impressive snapper and grouper populations. The Myrtle Beach area also has an excellent pier fishing scene, with three piers offering access to surf species.
