Cocoa Beach sits on Florida's Space Coast, offering access to the Indian River Lagoon — one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America — Atlantic Ocean and its productive nearshore reefs. The lagoon harbors exceptional populations of spotted seatrout, redfish, and snook in its shallow grass flats and mangrove-lined channels.
The Indian River Lagoon near Cocoa Beach is renowned for its trophy redfish fishing, with large "bull reds" common in the deeper channels during winter months. Trout fishing is excellent on the grass flats year-round, and snook are abundant around docks, bridges, and inlet jetties. The Banana River offers a quiet alternative with good bass and peacock bass action.
Offshore from Cocoa Beach, anglers access productive reefs and the edge of the Gulf Stream for kingfish, mahi-mahi, and sailfish. The Port Canaveral area sees excellent cobia action during spring, when these fish migrate north along the coast. Monitor wind and wave conditions with the live forecast above before heading offshore.
