The Outer Banks of North Carolina is one of America's most iconic fishing destinations, stretching over 130 miles of barrier islands where the cold Labrador Current meets the warm Gulf Stream, creating a unique nutrient-rich environment that attracts an extraordinary diversity of fish species. The OBX is famous for surf fishing — arguably the best in the eastern US — and for blue-water big game fishing.
Oregon Inlet is the gateway to the productive Pamlico Sound and the offshore Atlantic. The sound provides excellent inshore fishing for red drum, flounder, and speckled trout in waters that few anglers from outside the region have fully explored. Cape Hatteras is world-famous for its run fishery targeting large channel bass (red drum) in the surf during fall, with fish regularly exceeding 40 pounds.
The Outer Banks charter fleet targets blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna in the warm blue water just offshore. The proximity of the Gulf Stream to shore off the OBX makes these species more accessible than almost anywhere else on the East Coast. Use the wind and wave forecast above to plan your beach, sound, and offshore adventures.
